My Thought Experiment

Suppose that by the application of some miraculous power the people of Israel were to agree to be transported instantaneously to somewhere else in the world, say, oh, New Mexico. (Assume that the people already in New Mexico are agreeable.) Then let ten years pass. What would then be the situations in New Mexico and in the place where formerly there was the state of Israel?

The press, the blogosphere, the commentariat - in whatever form you take your medicine - are divided on the great question: How likely is a nuclear attack on the United States by a rogue state or a non-state actor, i.e., terrorists? And I have no ready-made answer to my derivative but highly pertinent question: How likely does it have to be?

There were questions about Pluto almost from the day Clyde Tombaugh discovered it in 1930. It didn't bother Tombaugh, it seems. His widow quotes him as having said before he died in 1997, "It's there. Whatever it is. It is there." That's the simple fact; the rest is just name-calling.
